Please join us in acknowledging Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Breastfeeding Week, celebrated annually from August 15–21. This observance, initiated by the Asian Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Task Force in 2020 and now organized by the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee's AANHPI Caucus, aims to promote breastfeeding practices and reduce inequities in AANHPI communities. Despite the perception that breastfeeding is a common practice in many Asian countries, Asian American women often face barriers such as limited culturally appropriate lactation support and aggressive marketing of infant formula. This year's theme, "Bridging the Gaps for AANHPI Families," highlights the need for improved education and support. As Rhode Island residents, we encourage you to join us in supporting all breastfeeding and chestfeeding birthing people and addressing these crucial opportunities.
